The Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) will be paying tribute to the queen of country, Shania Twain with performances by three-time CCMA Female Artist of the Year Jess Moskaluke, two-time CCMA Award winner Kira Isabella and 2015 CCMA Rising Star winner Madeline Merlo. The tribute will kick-off Canada’s biggest night in country music live from Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre on CBC and cbcmusic.ca/ccmas on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 8 p.m. in all time zones.
Six-time 2018 CCMA Award nominee Jess Moskaluke will help open the show by paying tribute to her country idol, Shania Twain. In 2017, Moskaluke became the first Canadian female country artist to have a song in the Top 5 since 2008. Outside of Shania, Moskaluke is also the first female Canadian Country artist to achieve PLATINUM single status with her hit track “Cheap Wine and Cigarettes.” Most recently, Moskaluke, a three-time consecutive CCMA Award winner for Female Artist of the Year, was awarded Gold-certification for her Top 10 hit “Kiss Me Quiet”, the title track from her 2017 JUNO Award winning Country Album of the Year.
With her most recent single “Little Girl” becoming the number one most added song on Canadian country radio, Kira Isabella has continued to be one of Canada’s favourite female voices. Performing at the Calgary Stampede and Boots and Hearts Music Festival this summer, Kira’s debut album Caffeine & Big Dreams debuted at #1 in Canada and earned her a Canadian Radio Music Award for Best New Country Artist. Kira has supported many country artists tours including Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean and 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Terri Clark.
Following the success of her last single “Motel Flamingo,” Madeline Merlo released “Neon Love” this spring, quickly securing her fifth Top 15th single. Since taking home the Rising Star Award in 2015, Merlo has opened for Dean Brody on his Beautiful Freakshow Tour, and taken to the main stage at festivals such as Cavendish Beach Music Festival, Sound of Music Festival, Country Thunder, and Boots and Hearts. With over six million streams on Spotify, Merlo is sure to deliver an incredible performance alongside Moskaluke and Isabella in their tribute to Twain.
Previously announced performers Dallas Smith and Terri Clark will also take to the stage together at the 2018 CCMA Awards. Together two of Country music’s most celebrated talents will perform their chart-topping single “One Drink Ago,” a song they debuted live at the Grand Ole Opry earlier this year. This performance will deliver one of the show’s highlights, bringing together two of Canadian Country’s biggest artists. 2018 Apple Music Fans’ Choice Award nominee Tim Hicks, six-time 2018 nominee and multi-CCMA Award winner Brett Kissel, and reigning Female Artist of the Year Meghan Patrick have also been confirmed to take the stage in Hamilton.
Tickets to the 2018 CCMA Awards are now on-sale. Single tickets and packages are available for purchase in-person at the FirstOntario Centre Box Office and online at ticketmaster.ca with $1 of each ticket sale going directly to MusiCounts in support of their year-round music initiatives.
