A new Montreal-based record label, Hot Tramp, is launching today, Aug. 14. Coinciding with the label's launch is the announcement of Janette King's latest single, "Mars" out on Aug. 21st.
Run by Sarah Armiento, the Hot Tramp Records is focused on raising the stage for womxn artists. There will be three artists releasing albums through the label in 2021: Janette King , Maryze, and Alicia Clara. Partnered with Outside Music as its worldwide distributor and The Diving Bell Social Club as its home venue, Hot Tramp says it is poised to make 2021 a breakout year for its artists.
Armiento launched Hot Tramp in 2019 as an artist management company with its roster consisting of Maryze and Janette King. The company soon expanded into show promotion, tour booking, and PR, working with over 20 artists in its first year. The inaugural Hot Tramp Fest was the year’s highlight, showcasing more than 25 womxn artists across five days of programming and receiving festival sponsorships from, among others, Grolsch, Vans, and MOOG.
Regarding the switch over to a label format, Armiento explains; “I’m launching Hot Tramp as a label firstly because I think it’s a necessary pandemic-adjusted pivot from my former format of management company and show promotion and secondly I think that the industry needs some more women-run labels to create safer spaces for artists, especially in the wake of all these industry call-outs. There seems to be a sort of cleanse happening in the industry right now that is dusting off some old cobwebs and clearing up space for newcomers like Hot Tramp.”
Launching the label alongside Janette King’s latest single ‘Mars’, the single can be heard HERE ahead of its official release next week.
