This year, the Coalition for Music Education in Canada (CMEC) is celebrating the 25 year of Music Monday. Launched in 2005 by The Coalition for Music Education, Music Monday is the world’s largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Each year, hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music makers participate in a simultaneous nationwide concert performance of an original song written by a Canadian artist.
The Music Monday anthem, “Sing It Together,” serves as a rally cry for the importance of music in Canadian schools and in people’s lives. On May 7, 2018, hundreds of thousands of participants will join together to sing and play the anthem across the country in schools, public parks, and communities to celebrate the galvanizing power of music.
A new arrangement for “Sign It Together” will be unveiled in the coming weeks, which school music classes and programs can practice and then join in on a nation-wide performance on the morning of Monday, May 7th. Although it often begins with students, teachers and their surrounding community, Music Monday also includes community groups, politicians, professional organizations, music industry, ensembles, and artists.
