John Cody Needs Our Help

We at Canadian Musician magazine are reaching out to try to help our friend and acclaimed Canadian songwriter and musician John Cody. John has had an extremely tough last few years due to complicated illnesses, mental trauma, and the resulting financial strain. We want to give him a hand by helping pay for the in-home care he requires before and after his next surgery.

After 20-plus years as a professional musician and songwriter, a slew of related medical conditions ended John’s music career about four years ago, taking away his singing voice and mobility. It’s left him with no way to make living and in near poverty. To make matters worse, John recently had to confront pass trauma caused by sexual abuse from his high school music teacher. The scandal is the subject of the CBC podcast, The Band Played On.

John was eligible to receive a sum of money from the Ontario Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, which he hoped would pay for his medical and care expenses, but the Doug Ford administration slashed the program and along with it the amount of money that was needed for care associated with his upcoming operation.
