Indie Week Canada 2018 Offers 6 Days Education, Entertainment & Inspiration

From Nov. 6-11, the 2018 edition of Indie Week Canada filled 25 venues around downtown Toronto with some of the best music from independent, emerging artists from Canada and more than a dozen other countries. As well, during the day, three venues hosted educational panels to arm indie musicians with the knowledge and insight they need to take their careers to the next level.

After a week of shows, the closing Best of the Fest event featured the top three acts as voted by industry delegates to announced the top act. Taking the top prize was South Korean lternative synth pop/rock band TRISS. Rock band Double Experience earned second place honours, while Toronto's own Dylan Hennessy was third.

Among the many educational sessions was the "Maximize Your Media Coverage" panel moderated by Canadian Musician magazine's Senior Editor, Michael Raine, who facilitated an informative and enlightening coversation with Toronto Star music report Ben Rayner, Exclaim! music journalist Sarah Murphy, and publicists Amanda McCauley (Indoor Recess) and Cristina Fernandes (Listen Harder).

Other conference sessions included: Martin Atkins' "How to Make an Extra $100K in the Next Year; Drafting the Right Team for Success; the Managers Panel; a artist-focused presentation from YouTube; Digital Rights 101 from ole; Music Synch & Licensing; Women Influencers; and more.
