'Becoming' Emerging Artist Contest Deadline Extended to Friday

The submission deadline for the BECOMING contest for emerging Canadian artists has been extended from today (Aug. 4) until Friday, Aug. 7 at 11:59 pm ET.

Lawson Vocal Studios (LVS & Company) created the “Becoming” emerging artist contest. The concept of the contest reflects the idea that artists are constantly in a state of becoming and growing and to give emerging artists the tools and resources to become the performers they desire to be.

“The time is right for us to celebrate the immense talent we work with every day at LVS and the enormous amount of talent we have yet to work with across Canada, by offering our first LVS emerging artist Contest, ‘Becoming’,” says Lorraine Lawson. “This contest will feature not just one winner but rather four standout artists in each category under-18 and over-18 with awards that are geared towards their continued growth and development.”

The contest is being held as a celebration of Lawson Vocal Studio's fifth anniversary. Submissions will be open from July 13 until August 4, 2020, with the final showcases and standout artist announcements happening later in August. The contest will be presented entirely online and will feature music artists from around Canada in two categories, ages 10-17 and 18 and above.

To qualify, artists are asked to submit a 5-minute audition video including an “About Me” component and one original performance. The submissions will be judged by a panel of industry professionals who will select the artists that will move on to do a live performance online. The winners will be awarded with prizes such as monetary funding towards artist development as well as meetings with music industry professionals. The aim of the awards is to recognize outstanding up-and-coming talent by supporting their continued development.

The Awards are as follows (2 in each category):
Standout Artist (10-17 and 18 and over)
Standout Performance (10-17 and 18 and over)
Standout Original Song (10-17 and 18 and over)
Standout Video Package (10-17 and 18 and over)
